Librum (AKA Christian Lancaster)
Christian Lancaster was a 4th rate (yes, that bad) writer. He was excellent at punctuation and grammar, but the stories always put his audience to sleep. He lacked imagination. Writer’s block would strike regularly and harshly. He would have given it up, but it was all he knew. Instead of quitting, he studied. Researching old stories that he may be able to steal and change just enough that no one would notice. Old books. Obscure stories. The more he found, the more he realized that he wanted to learn. He began to devour books that seemed impossible to find. Reading history, science, occult, whatever he could find. Talking his way into the back room of a private library was his finest accomplishment, for there, he found immortality. Not quite.
He found a reference that lead to a name, which led to a place that led to his sire becoming interested. Her name was Jacqueline. He was captivated instantly. She spoke like royalty. She had an accent that he couldn’t place, but made him shiver with every syllable. She used words like “mamihlapinatapai” and knew what it meant. Even if she had been ugly, he would still have been smitten. She was beautiful and elegant, all that he ever wanted in a woman. If she had been capable of love, she may even have felt the same. Her type, particularly her Clan, did not feel the way mortals do. Maybe what little feeling she had for him is what led her to take him as her childer.
After his embrace, his feelings for her subsided (especially after joining his Path), but never left him completely. However, his interest in learning never faltered for a moment. Now that he was Kindred, the world opened up to him and information that was previously unavailable to him was revealed. The discovered truth of another world opened his eyes to many possibilities. He was so enthralled with his new “life” that he almost lost everything to poverty. To make some fast cash, he quickly wrote a story about a Camarilla vampire that he had heard. Amazingly it sold, and sold well. Overnight, he had made a name for himself. Not a huge name, but a name none the less. Money started rolling in. All he had to do was write down a story he had heard every now and then. Change the names, fudge a bit of the story around a bit, and voila, another top seller.
If only he had done the name change in his first story, maybe that Camarilla vampire wouldn’t have held a grudge. Not that any mortals read these stories and tie them to real vampires. Oh no. They simply believe the writer has a very active, if not morbid, imagination. Unfortunately, some vampires have read his books. They can tie these stories to actual events. That’s why, one day, he’ll have to face the music for what he’s done. That’s why he changes the names now. Because, you never know who you’ll piss off by naming in a story.
