Werewolf

Background Growing up in the affluent Beacon Hill neighborhood in Boston, Eamonn rarely wanted for anything. His family was not ostentatious about their money but Eamonn rarely used it for himself. He has never had a job, but volunteered at a local library, and thus has a fairly good concept of how a job works, even if he’s never had to depend on one. His two elder siblings, Ryan and Kendall both worked their way through high school, and moved to different parts of the United States once their schooling was complete. And he followed closely behind once he graduated, and in fact attended the same university as Ryan. The reasons for this are not entirely academic. Eamonn was sixteen the first time Ryan visited from Indiana, where he went to school. Neither can remember who started it, or what lead to it, but during his visit the two made love. Not love, but lust. A combination of pure animal magnetism and long suppressed desire fueled a fire neither was aware of. They spoke little of the incident after it occurred, and Eamonn was sure his brother shared as much guilt, and shame, as he himself did. Ryan did in fact have a great deal of guilt weighing on his shoulders, not the least of which was an unconsummated relationship with a girlfriend back at school. Shame did not however cloud his desire for his younger brother. He could not bring himself to look upon the boy who had so looked up to him in years past. When he returned to school, his relationship with Susan progressed quickly. He began an email correspondence at the same time, and it became clear to Eamonn that his brother still hungered for the same things as he did. Ryan rarely visited after that incident, and so Eamonn applied to the same school as him so as to follow after the fleeting promise that their rutting had begun. After moving to the university, Eamonn and Ryan began spending more and more time together. It was clear to Ryan that he could not simply remain friendly or brotherly to one another, but he kept putting off the conversation he knew he should be initiating. Susan was quite taken with her lover’s younger brother, unaware of the envy that cut him just a bit deeper every day. Susan was not the only friend Eamonn made at university though. A local ‘townie’, Sheila, almost seemed to aggressively seek his company, and thus was pleasantly surprised when she did not seem to be romantically pursing him, but actually appeared to truly want his friendship. She ran with a sort of ‘gang’ who haunted the local bars and spent the late evenings exploring the expansive campus grounds. Naturally introverted, it took Eamonn several nights before he joined them into the small of the night in their ‘hunts’. He never knew or suspected them for what they truly were, but it was plain as day to them that he would soon become one of them. Not ever once having lost his temper or even being near to doing so, it still upsets Eamonn that his First Change was induced by his rage. His time spent with Sheila and her friends had begun to take a toll on Eamonn’s other pursuits. His schooling had suffered, he was down to only one shift a week at his part time job, and Ryan could not help but think that despite his brother being ‘closer’ to him, they had never been further apart. It was a mixed blessing that he confronted his sibling. One the one hand, Eamonn was touched that the man he idolized noticed him enough to have seen how his life was spiraling out of his control. On the other, well… Ryan not-so-wisely chose to invite Susan to his intervention, since she and Eamonn had become friendly with one another. Eamonn could not hear compassion or sympathy in his brother’s concerns, but accusations. Seeing his flimsy excuses brushed aside, he did the one thing he’d never done in the past when in a confrontation: he fought back. Eamonn did not have much he could use against his perfect brother, or his lovely girlfriend. They were both well liked, athletic, and progressing nicely in their chosen fields at school. He only had one piece of ammunition, and it was his only treasure, a secret he would never have shared with anyone in the world. Except for on this night. After cruelly making clear the nature of the two brother’s relationship, Eamonn took a small amount of pleasure in seeing the look of disgust on Susan’s face. The unabashed sorrow and guilt on Ryan’s face would quickly snuff out any consolation he might have salvaged from the night. First Susan, and then Ryan exited the apartment, before the enormity of Eamonn’s words sunk in. Possessed of a panic he could never have imagined, he too bolted from the domicile, not even bothering to close the door in his wake. He stumbled across the evening campus, barely noticing his surroundings before coming to a wooded park on the edge of campus. A different kind of panic had begun to envelop Eamonn, a panic rooted in the lizard brain of all creatures when faced with the dark unknown, before he realized that the night was all the darker for the missing moon. His mind had become too clouded to realize that the moon was simply new, before his panic forced him to begin rending his own flesh. His frustration, his panic, his fear had finally snapped his fragile mind, and Eamonn took all of his emotions out on his own body. Skin and tissue seemed to tear more easily than it should, and instead of growing weaker, he seemed more rested than he had in some time, and the night no longer seemed so dark. A part of him knew he did not wish to return to the accusatory lights of the city however, and so he fled deeper into the wooded grounds. Come morning, he would exit them a new man.

Description Even though he just passed his twentieth birthday, Eamonn still has a hard time making people believe he isn’t fifteen. He is not exactly short, just below average actually, but between his boyish looks and his slender build he cannot help but look like he still belongs in high school. It is lucky that he is not, since his ears stick out just a bit too much, and his eyebrows have always seemed to be the most prominent part of his slender face, and neither of these helped him escape the hazing of his peers while there. Now that he has grown into his body a bit more however, he has turned out to be a not altogether unattractive young man. His frame is slight, but not insubstantial thanks to several years of competitive high school swimming, and while his features are still a bit ‘off’, he somehow remains appealing to the eyes. His dark blonde hair (he refuses to call it brown) is usually parted so as to be out of his face, and it only makes his ears seem smaller and not any closer to his head. Most people would not go so far as to call him ‘handsome’, but ‘cute’ and ‘pretty’ are bandied about not infrequently. The one feature that stays with people the most, are his light blue eyes, eyes that seem almost refractory in the right light. He is usually dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and t-shirt combination that shows just how slim he is, along with some well-worn jeans. His sneaker collection is something to be envied, and it is rare to see him wear the same pair twice in any given week. Since his First Change, this has changed only slightly. By no means did he have much fat on his body before, now however he appears downright angular. His diet has clearly changed, but it is hard to pinpoint exactly what is different. Since then his hair has also become a bit neglected, growing long enough that even brushed aside it tends to conceal his eyes. Too has his clothing reflected this change in lifestyle, and he no longer seems as concerned with his clothing’s upkeep. At any time he still wears fairly casual, fashionable clothing, but now they don’t appear to be as freshly washed as before. Somehow he has managed to keep his favorite hooded sweatshirt around and in one piece.

Storytelling Hints Eamonn is thoroughly polarized about his newfound ‘life’. The freedom afforded him by four legs, and the camaraderie that his Pack gives him is in many ways more than he could ever have dreamed of. And yet… And yet he is a young man whose life is changing beyond his control. He finds countless hours spent behind a desk studying to be even more stifling than it was before, and he finds it hard to resist urges that overcome him at any given moment. Meat has never smelled better to him, and neither has some of the student body. During his teenage years he could have become intimate with any number of people if he had come out of his shell, but in some ways his aloof and pragmatic nature has saved him from much heartbreak and bad decisions. Now if someone smells just the right way he cannot help but want to tear their clothing off and bask in their naked splendor. He has already made some unwise choices when it comes to his Alpha, and unfortunately for him it will likely not be his last. He would also never have considered himself an angry man. That is not to say he did not have passions, simply that very little truly insulted him, and when something did raise his ire, it quickly passed. He is still slow to anger, but now it seems like rage simply settles upon his frame, slowly building up like a cloak. And sometimes it makes it hard for him to breathe. He is both young and new to the Change, and this makes him an easy target to his adversaries, another thing he did not have before. Sheila has had to save his ass more times than both feels is safe and Souj considers his lack of knowledge of the Shadow downright appalling. So much so that instead of furthering his education, the Itheur simply picks up Eamonn’s slack. Despite this, Clayton simply refuses to discipline the young pup as he should. This, more than any other betrayal, is what has driven the wedge between the Alpha and Sheila. When she made a mistake, she lost her leadership to Clayton’s fangs and claws. In some ways he remains the same introspective young man he was before the Change. Even when stalking the city streets late into the evening. Even when driven mad with pain or humiliation he manages to remain a sliver of calm. He is still the most levelheaded person he knows, never mind Uratha. His friends, those he still manages to keep in contact with, feel he is a wonderful sounding board for this idea or that, and when someone just feels the need to talk, Eamonn can be counted on to listen. His time at school has no doubt helped this, but even before then he was a wonderful confidant. Sheila has yet to share with him the many secrets of their Pack however, and it is something that gives her a terrible pain in her abdomen. This also means that when in battle, he is the last to shed his flesh. Even when he must enter the fray he is reticent to lose more than a little of himself to the Rage. And so he most often partially changes his forearms into those of his Dalu form and attempts to backup his group with hamstrings or other crippling wounds of a nonfatal nature. His relationship with Eliza has also opened his eyes to the greater world around him, and his fascination with it greatly troubles his Pack. There was already an uneasy truce between the Uratha and the vampires in the area, and so his ‘friendship’ with his teacher has only solidified this. Even Eliza finds his curiosity to be a potential danger, to her kind and his. Eamonn tries to stay away from Ryan as best as he can, but since his Change, they have resumed their intimate relationship and things have only gotten more difficult. He can smell his brother a good half an hour after he has been to one part of campus or another and he feels like the cartoon dog that floats on the vapors of a voluptuous woman. Both have tried seeing other people, Eamonn’s relationship with Clay being mostly physical, but it does not make it any easier. And when Eamonn spots Ryan with someone else, his anger and envy is almost enough to ignite his rage. Almost, but not yet.
